I am currently working towards a doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. I work in the Human Engineering Laboratory on the exoskeleton project. It's pretty cool being part of a lab which is the subject or articles in The New York Times every now and then. Hopefully I'll be around long enough to see some non-military applications of our work.
I graduated from Case Western Reserve University, with a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2004. In addition to the courses required for my major, I minored in architecture, took an advanced Spanish conversation class, and a drawing class at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
In middle and high school, I entered some of my artwork into the Scholastic Art Awards competition. Between 1996 and 2000, I won three gold key awards, two silver keys, and three place awards at the regional level.
I was born in Gent, Belgium, but I have lived in the United States for most of my life. Since my extended family lives throughout Flanders, I speak passable Flemish (Dutch). I also speak fluent Spanish.
In my spare time, I enjoy building with LEGO bricks, watching movies, skiing, mountain biking, and drawing (although I haven't done much of that in a while). |
